Follow the steps below when updating a CR that uses CFL to a new CR that uses DFL. A listing of the first CR that uses DFL for each CTP family is available in the DFL FAQ.
Check the table in the FAQ to make sure the new CR is actually a DFL CR.
Have the system license transferred to the DFL type. This is typically performed by the CEC or a licensing agent.
IMPORTANT: Before making the transfer to DFL, it is strongly recommended to check the existing CFL license to ensure it matches the system configuration. For example, Magnus VLF MCU and APL units may have been shipped from the factory with a CL automation license, which will work in the CFL system but will cause licensing errors with DFL. To check the currently licensed options on the system, type:
>>license and confirm the configuration. It is best to resolve any mismatched license issues before the transfer to a DFL license.
Ensure the device is powered on and connected to the workstation. No Service Dongle is required.
Ensure all Windows Security updates have been applied.
Install the new DFL CR.
IMPORTANT: The DFL authorization in the next steps will not work without the NVS parameters file for the system being present in the folder C:\Creo\Firmware, or, in the case of newer CRs such as MVLF CR 9+ and TS V CR 10+, in folder C:\Kodak\Firmware.
In a typical migration from a CFL CR with Print Console 4 to Print Console 5 and DFL, the NVS parameters file will be retained in the correct folder. However, if you have a new workstation or re-ghosted old the workstation with a new operating system, you must restore the NVS parameters file (GMCEnvs00.bin for Magnus VLF), along with other backups from the previous system to the correct file folders. For more detailed information on the PC4 to PC5 migration process and the necessary files and their folders, see Print Console 5: Migrating from Print Console 4 and Prinergy Evo TIFF Downloader (GDAPI).
Launch ODST and open the Authorization Tool.
NOTE: If you wish to connect remotely through RSS, you must upgrade your local client of ODST to version 2.0 or higher.
Obtain service access.
Authorize the device.
Authorize the head.
Apply the customer license.
Verify that all the status indicators show green.
Launch Print Console and verify that it reaches the Ready state.
Verify the migrated Print Console settings.
Leave the CFL customer dongle connected in case a downgrade back to a CFL CR is needed.
